We all know women don’t lay eggs, but building their nest is an essential process in becoming a mother. First time mother-to-be and Posh Pal, Priya Marie, was compelled to share her story when nesting into a cozy, owl nursery helped her create a special bond with her baby on the way.

“My nesting pretty much started the day I found out I was pregnant. I’m already a little OCD/control freak-ish, but being pregnant took it to a whole new level. Being pregnant has given me something to obsess about 24/7 without feeling the least bit guilty because I want every little detail PERFECT and ready for when my daughter arrives! I found myself constantly doing something in preparation for the baby. I made list after list of things to be returned, things we still needed, ideas for decorations, you name it.. I had a list for it. Sometimes it would almost feel as if I blacked out and when I came to, I had washed two loads of baby clothes, reorganized her dresser and put together her swing. I couldn’t stop if I tried!
Day after day I have been in the nursery organizing and decorating. Sometimes I just sit in the rocking chair (that my mother saved from when I was a baby) and just look around and think. I imagine what it would be like to have her here in my arms and think of all the fun memories that will be made in that room. I find it therapeutic. The space calms me and excites me all at the same time!

Now that her room couldn’t possibly be more organized, I’ve moved on to scrapbooking. I started her baby book, as well as a scrapbook of her ultrasound pictures, baby shower pictures, etc. I want every little piece of her saved. I want her to look back on all these things and see how excited we all were and how loved she was even before she arrived!
Nesting.. It can’t be controlled, it can’t be stopped. Actually, I think it’s healthy! It allows the mother to mentally prepare herself for what is to come. Although we go through the physical changes, there is still the reality of it all that doesn’t really start to sink in until the crib is put together and all the little clothes are hung up. There have been several instances where I’ve been in the nursery and stopped for a second to say ‘I’m having a baby.’ Nesting makes me feel like I’m bonding with the baby even though she isn’t here.. And I love it!”

An amazing coincidence occured on March first, the day we posted this guest blog. Our Posh Pal, Priya, gave birth to her beautiful baby girl on the same day! We were so happy that our nesting blogger shared Arianna’s newborn pictures with us.
The photoshoot took place in the very place where she had first bonded with her daughter – the nursery! Since the pictures put a huge smile on our faces, we wanted to share a few with you. Congratulations to Priya on having a happy and healthy baby girl!

Priya’s nesting story and owl nursery have inspired us! Here are some of our favorite feathered friends.

Our fuzzy friend, Lucy Lamb, has been a beloved member of the Posh family for many years. With a coat made for cuddling and soft floppy ears to listen to your every word, Lucy is a perfect friend. Many families have the joy of experiencing her loving company, but recently she has felt as though that isn’t quite enough. Lucy wants to spread her love and knowledge to as many families as she possibly can, so she has decided to go where most little lambs would never dream to… the Internet!
She recently began to update her Facebook and loves making new friends there. Taking things a step further, Lucy now has Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts under the name LoveLucyLamb! Through these outlets, you will find that Lucy is a lamb of many talents. Best friend, design consultant, fashionista, photographer, parent advisor, therapist, and professional cuddler are among her impressive list of skills. So if you connect with Lucy on any of these interests, she would be delighted to form an online friendship with you.

We love Lucy and you will too!

Hello dear blog world! Carley here and back from maternity leave. Allow me to introduce you to my beautiful son, Richmond Albert! Born May 2, 2012 weighing in at 9 lbs 1 oz and 21.5″ long.

Becoming a mother has been the greatest blessing in my life. I know everyone says that you will be a different person once you become a parent, and that’s just it, it’s all you can say. Your whole world has a new meaning, a new purpose – it’s really hard to put into words how wonderful it truly is.
Speaking of becoming a parent, I also became owner of a brand new nursery! Well.. not exactly new.. Richmond’s nursery design was inspired by vintage travel. We found a fabulous stamp fabric for our window treatments and ran with it!

We re-upholstered some darling vintage rocking chairs (for mom and baby) in a fun, colorful, textured chenille fabric and then painted the arms red and teal to add bold pops of color.

I found some old, well-worn suitcases and re-purposed one on top of a luggage stand to be my side table.

I bought a slew of brightly patterned card stock and made this birdy mobile, complete with a hot air balloon and fun clouds.

We live in a 1950′s rancher, so storage isn’t a word commonly used in our home. With a baby in the house we knew we would need a ton of space so we hung shelves and a screen tracking system to cover the clutter when not in use.

I found a really neat vintage travel calendar and made several easy and affordable pieces of unique artwork.

I saw this darling stamp lamp shade at a specialty store. It certainly fit the bill of our travel-themed nursery, especially since we live in Virginia and my son’s name is Richmond! Also, the artwork is a thumbprint guest book from our baby shower.

We decided to go bumper-less with a Skip Hop Complete Sheet and handmade quilt. We also placed a vintage suitcase or two under the crib for additional storage.

My cousin, Dianne, is a fabulous and talented artist/muralist who made us a custom postcard piece, complete with little personalized touches. She included our wedding invitation design, “this is where my journey begins” postcard and a little return address showing our names and address. Her work can be found here.

Our big statement piece is this metal dresser we found at an antique store. We sand blasted the enamel off, sanded it flat and then varnished it. This one-of-a-kind piece is what really frames the room. I love that it’s metal so it can hold magnets as well, for a fun place for Richmond to play.

Here is a “before and after” of my co-worker Shenna and I with our new handsome baby boys in tow.
Do you have any ideas for a vintage travel-themed nursery? I’d love to hear where your imagination has traveled.
