Design

A striking headboard is a statement piece in any boudoir; in fact, you can design a room completely around this one item of furniture. From tufted to upholstered (or perhaps both), having a pleasant place to rest your head can inspire the imagination. With thousands of colors and fabric choices, the possibilities are nearly endless.

Bed crown cornices are another wonderful way to anchor your bed. Whether upholstered, painted or intricately carved, a cornice’s lovely coordinating drape often sets the scene for style.

Of course, there are also beds with intricate wooden headboards, lush canopies or even simple posts. A headboard can be made from something re-purposed, like an old barn door, or even painted on the wall to get the style without sacrificing the space.

Designing for Duos

September 13, 2011

Designing a nursery for twins is double the fun! It can also be challenging to fit twice the sleeping space and storage into a small spot. If your nursery is on the small side, choose a crib that conserves space like a spindle crib or iron crib. Go ahead and invest in the bigger pieces (armoire, glider, bookcases) as these items will grow with your children.

Create a palette you love and give each baby a color of their own. Most twins like to maintain a sense of individuality as they grow up. And remember that everything does not have to be pink or blue! Try incorporating shades of orange, purple and green. Grey is also a great gender-neutral color that pairs well with creamy whites and metallic silvers.

Whether formal, whimsical, themed or casual, adding decorative pieces establishes the tone of the room. A themed chandelier, wall stickers or even a carrot dresser add a fun flair to your space. For walls that wow, consider a mural or group several smaller pieces together to create a pattern on the wall.

Since you’ll spend a lot of time in this seat, one of the most important nursery decisions is the glider or rocker. A slip covered glider is a practical option since you can easily wash and switch out the fabric. Solid velvet gliders are popular for their versatility and can easily be used in another room in the future. Many contemporary gliders are also now available in easy-cleaning white vinyl or leather with nail head trim. Just don’t wait too long to make this purchase so you have ample time to select the perfect seat!

If you’re still in the dark about where to begin, PoshTots is now featuring six nurseries designed with your dynamic duo in mind.

Who’s been watching Bravo’s new series Million Dollar Decorators?  If not, you must.  Just…must.  In the famous words of Andy Cohen, “here’s what:”

It’s crazy good.  And each decorator is so different and has such a different design aesthetic.  And it’s all so over the top.  And completely, totally, utterly, unspeakably fabulous.  If you love design, you will not be disappointed.  It’s like Project Runway (which we LOVELOVELOVE) without the angst.

Bravo, TV.  Bravo!

Pour yourself a glass of wine, settle in, and watch.  You will not be disappointed.  And then, when you’re done, tell us who YOU would hire to decorate your home.
